Polyester Peeling Layer–Peel Ply

Peel Plys, also called Release Fabrics, are widely used in the composite industry for achieving consistent surface finishes. They are typically added after laying up fabric layers but can also be placed on the tool surface. Peel plys absorb resin during the cure process, and once cured, are removed to leave a desired surface finish, which is beneficial for secondary bonding and reduces the need for grinding or grit blasting.

The choice of peel ply type or brand depends on factors such as ease of release from the surface, suitability for specific layup techniques and secondary bonding, temperature range, drapability, porosity, and overall usability.

Release Fabrics are PTFE – coated fiberglass fabrics that offer good release for common resin systems. Non – porous ones give a high – gloss smooth finish, while porous ones allow resin, volatiles, and air to escape and leave a textured surface.
