China Achieves Breakthroughs in Carbon Fiber Industrialization and Production
Since the beginning of the new century, China has organized superior scientific and technological talents to carry out research on carbon fiber. After more than 20 years of unremitting efforts, breakthroughs have been made in the engineering, industrialization and localization of carbon fiber.
In August 2023, the domestic T1000 PAN-CF kiloton level industrial production technology passed the technical appraisal of expert committee. Subsequently, the first national ten-thousand ton level high-performance carbon fiber production base was built in Xining.
China’s carbon fiber industry starts from scratch, expand and improve step by step. Nowadays, the carbon fiber industry has a good prospect as the research and application of carbon fiber have entered a new stage of rapid development.
Advancing Carbon Fiber Technology: Key Factors and Global Impact
In carbon fiber production field, which highly integrates production, study and research, providing the market with a wide range of products with stable quality, sufficient output and reasonable price is the key to the iterative upgrading of carbon fiber technology.
According to the international standard, carbon fiber products are divided into different models according to their strength and modulus, such as high-strength, high-modulus, high-strength and medium-modulus, high-strength and high-modulus and other series, among which the high-strength series are further divided into T300, T800, T1000 and other models according to their tensile strength. Carbon fiber products with different application fields are like scientific research topics that need to be tackled one by one.
Even the lowest grade of T300 carbon fiber is several times stronger than the general automobile impact beam, not to say the difficulty of its research and development. With the joint support of software and hardware technologies such as molecular design, polymerization engineering, solidification molding, and equipment fine control, China has successively broken through the key technologies of T300, T700, and T800 level PAN-CF during the “Tenth Five-Year Plan” period to the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, and achieved large-scale production. In 2022, China’s carbon fiber production accounted for 1/3 of the world’s total.
